the wrong kind of love #24

Chapter 24

Mandy was sprawled on the sofa watching telly, when she heard the door opening. She sat up straight and looked at the door, smiling and getting up when Nicky walked in. He took off his sunglasses and looked at her with a smile.
“Hello babe!” she grinned, walking towards him and flinging her arms around his neck.
Nicky put his briefcase down and threw the sunglasses on the coffee table, wrapping his arms around her waist, “Hello baby. Miss me, did ya?”
“Oh you have no idea how much!” she sighed, kissing his neck.
“I have missed you too sweetheart!” he smiled.
Mandy sniffed and smelt an unfamiliar scent to him. She pulled away from him slightly and looked up at him, “IS that a new aftershave you have on?”
Nicky stepped back and smiled, rubbing his hand on his neck, “Er…Yeah. I bought it in London. Do you like it?”
Mandy studied his facial expression and answered, “Yeah, its nice!” she answered in a semi-tone higher. She was lying through her teeth. It was very different to his usual brand and not at all his scent. That’s when it finally hit her. She remembered Brian’s words, ”Look out for the smell of perfume”
She went as white as a sheet. This smell had a slight feminine scent to it. Nicky looked at her and noticed her ashen face, “Are you ok babe? You’ve gone really pale!” he asked, grabbing her hands.
Mandy edged back slightly, “Er…Yeah. I am fine!” she stuttered.
“Are you sure? Coz you really don’t look too good!” he checked.
Mandy nodded and decided on changing the subject, “are you hungry?”
Nicky just shook his head, “Nah. I hate in the plane. I’m in serious need of a shower though!”
Mandy smiled and got closer to him again, rubbing her finger up and down his chest, “Hmmm, fancy taking a shower together?” she purred.
“Actually babe, I am really tired from all that travelling. I just want to have a shower and go to bed!” he fobbed her off.
Mandy sighed and frowned, “Oh right!” she mumbled.
“You don’t mind do you? I’ve just not had much rest these past few days and I really need to catch up on some sleep!” he soothed her.
“Yeah, I’ll bet!” she mumbled under her breath.
“What was that?” he asked.
Mandy shook her head, “Nothing. Go on. Just go and have your shower. I’m off to bed myself!”
Nicky kissed her lips quickly as she got into bed and stared at the ceiling, deep in thought. He couldn’t be having an affair. He was really offended when she had asked him straight out. But then again, it could have been because she had caught him out and he didn’t like that one bit. But then again, why would he have bought her that car if he was seeing someone else? Guilt! That’s what Brian said. And he could be right. It could be the only explanation. But £16,000 was a lot of money to spend for a guilty conscience. Surely, he would have bought her a gold bracelet or earrings or something, not a brand new car. She let out a sigh and chewed on the inside of her cheeks. Maybe he really was telling the truth. Maybe she was just reading too much into it and it was all innocent. But he had not seen her in 2 days and he didn’t even want to make love to her. That did not seem right. He was always the one who initiated sex and could never go a day without making love to her, and now he didn’t even want to touch her. She sighed and rolled over onto her stomach. She couldn’t think about this anymore. She just wanted to sleep and all she kept thinking about was Nicky and then Brian and the things had told her. She let out an inaudible moan and turned around in bed again, wishing the voices in her head would just go away.
”Tell him. Go on. Ask him again.”
“No. He will only deny it and hate you for it!”
“You’ll feel better if you know the truth!”
“He is not going to be honest anyway!”
“He is not having an affair. It is all just in your imagination!”
“He is having an affair. It is really obvious!”

Mandy couldn’t take it anymore. She could just imagine the devil Mandy sitting on one of her shoulders and the angel Mandy sitting on the other, cartoon fashion. She let out a soft scream into the pillows, kicked the covers back and jumped out of bed, just as Nicky was walking into the room with a towel wrapped around his waist.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
“To make myself a drink!” she growled, storming past him.
Nicky grabbed her arm before she managed to leave, “What’s wrong love?”
Mandy shrugged away from his grip, “Nothing!”
“Mandy!” he gasped.
“Look. I am fine, ok? There is nothing wrong now go and get some sleep!” she sighed, freeing herself.
“Are you sure?” he questioned.
Mandy looked at his twinkling blue eyes and sighed. He couldn’t be having an affair. He just couldn’t. His eyes told her that.
“Positive!” she whispered, managing a smile in the process.
Nicky kissed her lips and let go of her, “Don’t be too long ok? I need a cuddle!” he pouted.
That made Mandy smile and she instantly felt better. She kissed him back, “I’ll try not to!”
She walked down to the kitchen and made herself some hot chocolate. She then drank it and went back up to her room. She walked in to find Nicky fast asleep. She stopped, looked at him, smiled and then walked over to him. She rubbed her hand along his cheek and then kissed his lips softly, “Good night sweetie. Sleep tight!”
She got into bed and turned her bedside lamp off, cuddling up closer towards him. Falling asleep was a bit of a task, but she finally managed it. When she woke up, it was to the sound of the alarm. Mandy moaned. It felt as she had only been asleep for 5 minutes instead of 5 hours. Nicky stirred, opened his eyes and stretched out in bed.
“Morning!” croaked Mandy sleepily.
“Shhh go back to sleep baby.” He whispered, kissing her head gently.
Mandy shook her head, “I can’t!”
She decided against telling him that she had a job where in worked. She figured she would surprise him later on. She smiled and walked downstairs to make breakfast, which he just wolfed down and then set off for work. Mandy smiled, got dressed and made her own way there.
When she got there she looked around, “Morning!” she grinned. Everyone smiled at her and got back to work. She sat at her desk and put her headphones on, taking a call immediately. Brian looked at her in bewilderment. Why was she in such a good mood? He wondered. Then he realised. Nicky had returned home last night. He sighed and shook his head.
“Wanker!” he mumbled.
“What?” asked Sam next to him, looking up from her computer.
Brian looked at her, “What would you do if Shane cheated on ya?” he questioned.
“I’d break his fucking balls!” she chuckled.
Brian sighed and rolled his eyes, “Would you stay with him?”
“Fuck no! Once he dips his paintbrush in someone else’s pot, there is no fucking way he is dipping it in mine again…unless I don’t know about it!” she casually added.
Brian looked at her, “What if you suspected?”
“Then I would ask him!” she shrugged.
“And what if he denied it?” she raised his brow.
“Then I would give him the benefit of the doubt!” she smiled.
Brian sighed and continued working on his computer, “You women are not right in the head. I swear!” he sighed.
Sam gave him confused looks and shrugged, getting back to his own work.
A while later, Brian stopped typing and looked at Sam.
“If Shane was cheating on you and you had no idea would you like to be told?” he asked her.
Sam stopped typing and looked at him, “What’s with the 20 questions, Bri? Is Shane cheating on me? Is that it?” she growled, getting annoyed.
“NO. NO. Not Shane. I was just wondering if he was cheating on you, and you didn’t believe he was, would you like to be told?” he asked again.
“Well, yeah. But it doesn’t necessarily mean I would believe it!” she shrugged, “Not unless I saw it with my own eyes!”
“So, would you resent someone who could prove it and could you make you see that he was cheating on you?” he questioned.
“Brian, what is all this about?” she asked getting worried.
“Nothing. I just need to know!” he mumbled.
Ok, look. If Shane was cheating on me, I really would like to know. But I would have to see it myself to believe it. It would hurt immensely, yes, but if someone could prove it, I suppose I would be grateful in the future!” she explained, “I hope that helps!”
“Even if it meant playing a nasty trick on you?” he raised a brow.
Sam thought about this and nodded, “If my bloke was doing the dirty I would like to know, no matter what. I would probably be angry at whoever it was that played a trick on me to get to see it for myself, but eventually I would realise it was the right thing to do!” she explained.
“OK Thanks. That’s exactly what I needed to know!” he smiled and got up.
Sam looked at him in bewilderment, “Where are you going?”
“To get myself a cup of coffee. I have had a brainwave!” he winked, walking away.
