Chapter 19
When Mandy woke up, she saw Nicky was not beside her anymore. She could hear the shower running so she guessed he was having a shower. She sighed heartily ad thought about everything that had happened yesterday. Her and Nicky arguing and falling out, sleeping with Brian and then making up with Nicky again. She frowned and stayed in bed, not wanting to get up. She was not looking forward to today at all. In fact, she was not looking forward to the next couple of days alone. Even though most of the times she was on her own anyway. But at least he was in the same country. Now he would be in a different country and she would be totally alone. She heard the door open and that broke her train of thoughts. She looked at Nicky walking in with a towel wrapped around his waist.“Good morning!” he smiled, as he grabbed his trousers and put them on.“Morning!” she mumbled. She got out of bed and put her robe on, “Want some breakfast?”Nicky looked at her and smiled, “I’d love a cup of coffee and some toast!”Mandy smiled weakly and started walking away. Nicky grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.“Happy anniversary sweetheart!” he smiled, planting a huge kiss on her lips.Mandy smiled slightly, “Right back at you!”She went to her wardrobe and pulled out a present. She handed to him and stared at him as he opened it. He looked at it and smiled, looking at her, “A briefcase!”Mandy smiled and nodded.“Wow, thanks. I needed one. My old one was getting all tatty!”“I know!” se smiled, “I noticed. You can take this one on your trip!”Nicky nodded, “Thanks babe. I love it. And I love you!” he smiled, quickly kissing her lips. She nodded and started walking downstairs, gutted that he had not given hr anything. When she walked into the kitchen, she saw a huge box on the table. She stopped on her tracks, looked at it and then walked towards it. She smile when she saw her name on it.“Go on. Open it!” smiled Nicky from behind her.She jumped and looked back at him. She grinned and quickly tore the paper open. She looked at the present in front of her and then looked back at Nicky.“Like it?” he grinned.Mandy looked at the huge box and then back at Nicky, “what is it?” she asked.“A car!” he laughed.“It’s a toy car? You got me a toy car?” she shrieked, not exactly impressed with it, but not wanting to sound ungrateful.“But it’s your favourite car!” he smiled.Mandy was lost for words. She honestly did not know what to say. How could she tell him she liked it?“Well, don’t you like it?” he asked.“Well, erm…it’s different. I don’t know what to say!” she gasped, still staring at it in disbelief.“Why don’t you take it out of the box? You might like it better!” he smiled.She seriously doubted that, but with a sigh, she opened the box anyway and pulled the car out. It was indeed her favourite car and her favourite colour too. A blue convertible VW new beetle. She studied it and then looked at Nicky. It was radio controlled.“Er…It’s very nice, thanks!” she smiled, trying to sound as convincing as possible. She hoped she didn’t give away how let down she was by it. She put it on the table and continued staring at it.“The doors open and everything” he smiled, “Go on, try it!”Mandy smiled and grabbed it. She put it on the floor and started pressing the buttons on the remote controller. One of the doors opened. Nicky jumped excitedly.“Cool isn’t it?” he smiled.“Er, yeah!” she smiled. Amused by his childish behaviour.Nicky picked it up and inspected it.“Oh hang on. There is something inside it. Look!” he said, giving her his most serious look!Mandy looked inside it and saw something on one of the seats. She took it out and looked at it. Then she looked at Nicky.“It’s a key!” she said confused. “What’s it for?”Nicky looked at it closely and inspected it, “No idea! Maybe it is part of the toy.”“It look so life like though!” gasped Mandy still staring at it as she turned it around in her hands, “Maybe it is another controller. I mean, look, it has buttons and everything on the sides!”Nicky looked at it and nodded, “Yeah. Press them and see what happens!”Mandy pressed the yellow button, but nothing happened. She pressed it again, but still nothing happened. She looked at Nicky and then at the key again. She pressed the black button this time and immediately heard a noise. She quickly looked back to where the sound came from and then looked at Nicky.“What was that?” she asked.Nicky looked at her, “I dunno.”“Sounds like it came from outside!” she blankly said.Nicky nodded and walked to the door. Mandy followed him and looked over his shoulder, “Well what…”She stopped talking when she saw what was in front of her. It was the exact same car, but this time it was a real one. She looked at Nicky who grinned from ear to ear.“What’s what?” she gasped.“What does it look like?” he grinned.“Well it looks like my toy car but only bigger!” she answered, unable to take her eyes off it.“Hmm maybe that key was magic and turned the toy one into a real one. Press that button again!” he could hardly contain his excitement. Mandy pressed the black button again and it made that noise again. She saw the lights on the car flashing this time. She gasped loudly.“Nicky…Does this mean…this key…I mean…does it….” She could not finish her sentence.Nicky laughed and placed his arms around her waist, “Happy anniversary darling!” he kissed her hard on the lips.“You mean…that car is mine? You got me that car?” she shrieked. She could still not believe it was hers.Nicky laughed loudly, “You didn’t honestly think I would give you that radio controlled car did you?”“Well, I dunno!” she gasped.“Come on babe. Give me some credit here!” he chuckled.Mandy looked at the car again with her mouth wide open, “That must have cost you a fortune!” she whispered.“Nevermind about that. Do you like it?” he smiled, wrapping his arms around her waist.Mandy looked at him seriously. She shook her head slightly and gave him a huge hug, “I love it!” she whispered.Nicky laughed, “You should have seen your face when you saw that toy car. It was priceless!”Mandy kissed him hard on the lips, “Thank you. I love you so much!”Nicky smiled and kissed her back, “I know. And I love you too!”They started kissing again. They stayed with their lips locked for a while before Nicky pulled way. He looked at her and smiled, “Now how about some breakfast?” he whispered.Mandy smiled and walked back in with him, “OK. You go and sit yourself down. I’ll make you the best breakfast you could ever wish for!”
