Chapter 10
After a whole day of being together, Mandy and Nicky decided it was time for bed. They had done everything today – from snuggling up on the sofa and watching telly, to going to town and to the cinema and to the pub. Now they were laying in bed together, content and tired.
“I have really enjoyed myself today Nicky!” smiled Mandy, snuggling up closer to him and wrapping her arm around his tiny waist. Nicky smiled and put his arm around her.
“Mmmm me too baby!” he smiled.
Mandy looked at him. He seemed very distant suddenly.
“What’s on your mind babe?” she asked.
He quickly looked at her, “Nothing. Why do you ask?”
“Well, you just seem kinda distant, that’s all. As if something is really worrying you!” she shrugged.
“Do I?” he asked in a high pitched tone.
Mandy nodded, “You sure you’re ok?”
Nicky smiled and nodded squeezing her tightly and placing a quick kiss on her lips, “I am fine sweetheart!”
Mandy thought back to something Brian had said, “If you notice your partner
being distant, that is a sign that he might be cheating on you!”
She quickly shook her head free of those thoughts. Nah! He had been really attentive all day. He even took the day off work which he never did and he had certainly not lost any interest in sex, which was another sign Brian mentioned. She shrugged her feelings off and smiled, “Well, I suppose we can put the phone back on!”
Nicky smiled as he put the socket back on the wall. He then cuddled up closer to Mandy and kissed her, “How about a perfect ending to a perfect day?” he suggested, kissing her neck.
Mandy smiled as he kissed down her neck, “Sounds…perfect!” she grinned, closing her eyes and tilting her head to the side.
“I love you!” he mumbled against her lips, “I love you so much!”
“I love you too baby!” she whispered, “I wish you could stay in again tomorrow!”
“Yeah, me too!” he mumbled, kissing down her chest and back again to her lips. He slowly climbed on top of her without taking his lips away from hers. That’s when the phone rang. They both stopped kissing, leaving their lips stuck together and opening their eyes, “Just leave it!” she mumbled against his lips.
Nicky sighed and took his lips away from hers, “You know I cannot leave a phone to ring!” he sighed, climbing off her and picking it up. Mandy looked at him as he answered it.
“What, now?” he shrieked.
This did not sound too good, thought Mandy.
“Just leave it Mike. I’ll fix it in the morning!” he moaned.
Mandy bit her lip and tried to guess what the conversation was about. Nicky sighed and run his fingers through his hair. He looked at Mandy and stayed silent for a while. He bowed her head down and scratched his forehead, “Oh right. Ok then! I’ll be there in ten minutes!” he sighed, hanging up. He then looked at Mandy and frowned. He pushed the covers back and started getting dressed. Mandy just sat on the bed staring at him.
“You have got to be kidding me!” she sighed.
“I am sorry darling. There has been this huge cock up with the accounts and I need to go and sort it out!” he sighed, putting his shirt on.
“Can’t your boss go and do it for once?” she almost screamed.
“Nope! He is away with his wife and kids and I have been left responsible!” he sighed, putting his trousers on and buttoning them on.
“Oh right. Yeah, I forgot, he has a life!” she remarked sarcastically.
Nicky looked at her briefly as he put his belt on, “Not now eh? Lets not ruin what has been a perfect day!”
“No, coz that has been ruined already!” she snarled, “I told you not to answer that phone!”
“Mandz, all this falls down on me. If things go wrong and I am not there to sort it, it could all get very messy. Noone else has the authority or the experience to sort these problems out!” he huffed.
“Fine, whatever. See you…whenever!” she sighed, laying back down in bed and pulling the duvet over her. Nicky grabbed his briefcase and walked over to her. He crouched down and rubbed his fingers down her cheek, “I am sorry babe. I’ll try not to be too long!” he whispered before kissing her.
“I’ll be asleep anyway!” she moaned, “So I don’t really care much!”
Nicky sighed, kissed her forehead and walked out. When she heard his car speeding off, she grabbed her mobile phone from the night table and switched it on. She was greeted with 2 messages. She read the first one and sighed.
Mandy please don’t shut me out. We need to talk. Luv B xxx
She sighed and went to read the 2nd one.
We were friends. Nothing has to change. Just remember that. B xxx
She sighed and threw the phone on the bed beside her. He was right. Nothing has too change, but she was so scared. After her first meeting with him a few days ago, she started believing that if things with her and Nicky didn’t work out, there was someone else out there to replace him. After confiding in him and telling him all her problems, she realised exactly how special Brian McFadden was. He showered her with attention and was always good to have around. He was an expert at taking her minds off things. She sighed and chewed on her finger nails as a single tear rolled down her cheek. She wiped it off and sniffed. She was so scared of all the feelings she held for him, and also somewhat confused, as she really loved Nicky too. It was the constant niggling feeling on the back of her mind that Nicky was having an affair, which made her think of Brian even more. Today, after such a perfect day with Nicky, she managed to convince herself that it was all in her imagination and that Nicky was innocent. But now that horrible feeling was back. She felt as if she was going crazy. With a heavy sigh, she picked up her phone and stared at it for a while. She let out another sigh and went to create a message. She had to be honest with him. He deserved that.
Meet me for lunch tomorrow at the café. We’ll talk then! Luv M xxx
She quickly put the phone down and closed her eyes, hoping to get some sleep.
